In June we held our first meeting with the Haliburton, Kawartha, Pine Ridge District Health Unit and City Parks and Recreation to plan our participation in GCC’s World Record Walk, a one km walk to set the record for number of people walking in a single event simultaneously.
In July we settled details of insurance, route, verification for Guiness Book of Records, refreshments, prizes, school contacts and registration.
The Health Unit contacted all of the schools in the city.
Toward Balance coordinated the registrations, prizes and submissions for the event.
Parks and Recreation coordinated the venue, insurance and verification.
On October 3 the walk drew over 1800 walkers from the city, making City of Kawartha Lakes one of the highest per capita participation rates in Canada. Those present included Mayor Ric McGee, several councillors, local business people and interested students and citizens.
